Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 March 2026
MapArtPrint ("we", "us", "our") is a map art design tool. We collect minimal data and do not use your information for advertising. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights under GDPR, Swiss FADP, and similar laws. By using the Service, you acknowledge and accept the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Local storage (on your device)
To make the app work, we store data in your browser’s local storage:
- Design preferences — city, coordinates, map style, output size, and similar settings
- Premium token — a signed token proving a completed purchase (no card details)
- Free download contact details — if you submit your email for a free download, we may store your email address and marketing preference on your device so you do not have to enter it again on your next free download
Local storage stays on your device unless and until you submit data to us separately through a form or payment flow.
Information you provide to us
- Email address — when you request a free download, we ask for your email address before generating the file
- Marketing preference — whether you opted in to receive occasional product or launch updates
Information we may receive
- IP address and request logs — from hosting (Netlify) for security and debugging
- Payment data — Stripe processes payments; we never see or store card numbers
- Search queries — when you search for a location, the query is sent to Nominatim (OpenStreetMap)
- Download context and technical metadata — for downloads and email captures, we may store the selected city, map coordinates, style, output size, country derived from request headers, browser type, device type, and similar service metadata
What we do NOT collect
- Account information (we don’t have user accounts)
- Analytics or tracking cookies
- Payment card numbers or full payment credentials
We do not sell your personal data or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Providing the service — map display, export, free-download delivery, and payment verification
- Remembering your free-download details on your device — so repeat free downloads are faster on the same browser
- Communications — sending occasional product or launch updates only if you opt in
- Operations and product improvement — understanding download activity, styles, and sizes people use so we can improve the service
- Security — protecting against abuse and fraud
- Legal compliance — where required by law
Legal basis (GDPR/UK GDPR): contract performance or taking steps at your request to provide the download or process a payment; consent for optional marketing emails; and legitimate interests for service security, fraud prevention, basic analytics, and product improvement.
3. Third-Party Services
We rely on these services. Each has its own privacy policy. We are not responsible for the data practices of third parties. Their processing of your data is governed solely by their policies. By using the Service, you accept that your data may be processed by:
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe Privacy Policy
- Netlify — hosting. Netlify Privacy Policy
- Google Fonts — typography. Your IP may be logged. Google Privacy Policy
- MapTiler — map tiles and styles. MapTiler Privacy Policy
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — map data and geocoding. OSM Privacy
4. Cookies & Local Storage
We do not set cookies. We use localStorage only to:
- Save your design settings between visits
- Store your premium download token after purchase
- Remember your free-download email address and marketing preference on the same device/browser, if you choose to submit them
Third-party services (e.g. Google Fonts) may log connection data. See their policies above.
5. Data Retention
- Local storage — Until you clear it or until the premium token expires (24 hours after purchase; your download access is tied to that token)
- Free download email records and related design context — for as long as reasonably needed to operate the free-download flow, maintain our suppression/unsubscribe records, respond to legal requests, and support the business purposes described in this policy, unless you ask us to delete them sooner where applicable by law
- Server logs — Typically 90 days or as required by our host
- Stripe — Per Stripe’s retention policy for payment records
6. Your Rights (GDPR & EU)
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — Correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — Request deletion of your data
- Portability — Receive your data in a portable format
- Restrict processing — Ask us to limit how we use your data
- Object — Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent — Withdraw any marketing consent you previously gave
- Complain — Lodge a complaint with your data protection authority
To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@mapartprint.com. We will respond within 30 days to the extent we hold personal data about you. Much of the data described in this policy (e.g. localStorage, search queries) is stored on your device or with third parties—you can clear localStorage yourself via your browser settings for mapartprint.com. For data held by third parties, you must contact them directly.
7. California Residents (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know, access, correct, or delete certain personal information we hold, and the right to opt out of "sales" or "sharing" as those terms are defined by California law. We do not sell personal data and we do not share personal data for cross-context behavioural advertising.
For free-download email capture, the categories of personal information we may collect include identifiers (such as email address and IP address), internet or network activity information (such as browser, device type, and download activity), approximate geolocation derived from IP, and user-provided or selected content such as the map location, coordinates, style, and output size. We use this information to provide the requested download, operate and secure the service, and send optional product updates where you opted in.
8. International Transfers
Some providers (e.g. Stripe, Netlify) may process data outside the EU. They use measures such as Standard Contractual Clauses to protect your data.
9. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect data, including HTTPS (TLS) and not storing payment card data—Stripe handles payments in a PCI-compliant manner. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for securing your own device and browser. We are not liable for unauthorized access to data stored on your device (e.g. localStorage) or for breaches or failures of third-party services.
10. Children
MapArtPrint is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
11. Changes
We may update this policy at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
12. Limitation
This policy describes our practices. It does not create contractual rights. Our liability in connection with data processing is subject to our Terms of Service.
